WHAT DO YOU NEED TO REGISTER?

At the time of registration all athletes must be members of the Italian Cycling Federation, or organizations affiliated with said Federation.

There are two registration categories:

  • Amateur cyclist (competitive level)

  • Bicycle tourist (NON-competitive level)

Italian cyclists not belonging to any cycling club may sign up for La Gallo Nero event with the additional payment of €15 to activate a daily insurance coverage, i.e. insurance coverage for September 17th 2023.

Foreign cyclists may sign up exclusively by paying an additional €15 to activate a daily insurance coverage, i.e. insurance coverage for September 17th 2023.

The event Organizer may, at any time and at its sole discretion, decide whether to accept or refuse registration to the event, or whether to exclude a registered participant should they in any way damage the image of the event.

WHAT TYPE OF CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE?

All participants must possess a valid certificate of fitness for sports practice (for cycling). The required type of certificate of fitness for sports practice depends on the type of route chosen and on the type of club membership.

133 km cycling event

  • For athletes registered as members of the Italian Cycling Federation or other Sports Promotion Authority: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling pursuant to Ministerial Decree 18/02/82 (certificates of fitness for different sports, such as triathlon, duathlon, track, etc., shall not be deemed valid).

  • For athletes resident in Italy, but not registered as members of the Italian Cycling Federation or other Sports Promotion Authority: certificate of fitness for competitive cycling pursuant to Ministerial Decree 18/02/82

  • For athletes residing in a foreign country: certificate of fitness for participation to competitive cycling events issued by a doctor of their country of residence (LINK).

60 km cycling event

  • For Italian athletes registered as members of the Italian Cycling Federation or other Sports Promotion Authority: certificate of fitness for non-competitive cycling or certificate of fitness for high-intensity cardio sports practice pursuant to Ministerial Decree dated 24/04/13 (LINK). For Italian athletes aged 70 or more (solar age), a certificate of fitness for competitive cycling pursuant to Ministerial Decree DM 18/02/82 is required.

  • For athletes resident in Italy, but not registered as members of the Italian Cycling Federation or other Sports Promotion Authority: certificate of fitness for non-competitive cycling or certificate of fitness for high-intensity cardio sports practice pursuant to Ministerial Decree dated 24/04/13 (LINK). For Italian athletes aged 70 or more (solar age), a certificate of fitness for competitive cycling pursuant to Ministerial Decree DM 18/02/82 is required.

  • For athletes residing in a foreign country: certificate of fitness for participation to non-competitive cycling events or certificate of fitness for high-intensity cardio sports practice, or an equivalent certificate, issued also by a doctor of their country of residence (LINK). For foreign athletes aged 70 or more (solar age), a certificate of fitness for competitive cycling pursuant to Ministerial Decree DM 18/02/82 is required.

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS RACE?

La Gallo Nero is a non-competitive “bicycle touring” event dedicated to the promotion of the host territory.

ROUTES AND START TIMES
  • La Gallo Nero” = 133 km, start time from 8 to 8:30 AM

  • Chianti Classico” = 60 km, start time from 8:30 to 9 AM

All routes are marked by arrows, but participants must refer to the “Road Book”. Routes and GPS tracks are available for consultation and may be downloaded from the route page.

WHO DOES THE AWARD GO TO?

Prizes will be awarded to the largest groups, to the group coming from farthest away and other prizes will also be drawn.

ARE THERE REFRESHMENT STANDS ALONG THE WAY?

There are 4 refreshment stands along the longer route, and 1 refreshment stand for the short route:

  • San Casciano in Val di Pesa

  • San Donato in Poggio

  • Castagnoli (Gaiole)

  • Ponte alle Granchiaie (Gaiole)
  • water at the finish line

  • final refreshment – at the Gallo Nero Village

All refreshments stands are clearly marked a few meters ahead.

TERMS AND REGISTRATION FEE

All registrations must be made through the Winning Time website.

  • From opening date for registration until July 31st: € 30,00 with race pack.

  • From August 1st to September 4th: € 40,00 with race pack.

  • From opening date for registration until September 12th without race pack: € 25,00.

  • Saturday September 16th and Sunday September 17th without race pack: € 40,00.

  • For cycling clubs: every 10 registrations completed, the eleventh one is free.

The registration fee includes: race pack, refreshments along the route, medical assistance during the event, water at the finish line, end-of-race refreshments, attended bicycle parking at the Village.

WHAT IS IN THE RACE PACK?
La Gallo Nero race pack contains a special 100% cotton t-shirt that is ideal for practicing sports, a stroll in town or a bike ride with friends.
